In the hustle and bustle of the modern business world, issues such as mental health awareness can easily fall to the wayside. Luckily, in recent days, employers have been placing a greater emphasis on mental health awareness. Now is the time to make positive and lasting changes. Here are a few ways you can contribute to raising mental health awareness in the workplace.

Recognizing The Effects

The first step to improving mental health awareness is to identify the signs of poor mental health personally. In the workplace, we often take pride in pushing through painful periods and putting ourselves last.

While this idea is not wrong, it often does more harm than good. This type of thinking can lead to burnout and mental health issues. By taking care of the employees and taking a personal interest in them, employers put themselves in a better position for future success.

Understand The Impact

With the recent pandemic, we are finding increased negativity and stress among workers in the US. According to a recent study done by Total Brain, a mental health platform, anxiety levels since the beginning of the pandemic have risen 54% across the board and 83% in workers aged 40-59.

With these kinds of numbers, it is clear they a majority of workers suffer from some mental health problems. Keeping this in mind can help out when the issue of mental health arises in your workplace.

Integrate Mental Health Awareness Into The Workplace Culture

If you are a manager of some sort, it will benefit everyone if you prioritized working towards creating a culture of mental health awareness. Get everyone into the habit of caring for each other on a personal level.

Mental health awareness will only become a reality if a culture exists in the workplace. It takes a while to change workplace culture, but it is possible. Things may be slow to change, but nothing will ever happen if there is no effort to initiate the change.

We must take care of each other at all times and places. This is doubly true during these difficult and turbulent times. If we go the extra mile to make mental health a priority in the workplace, everyone will benefit.
